Our expertise in the aviation industry has been invaluable, giving us deep insight into the harsh conditions luggage faces - from baggage systems to handling by ground staff. To withstand such rigorous treatment, every aspect of the design and component selection must meet exceptionally high standards.
The BagID has been developed in collaboration with airports, airlines and two Norwegian design agencies Eker Design and Permafrost.
The outer casing of the BagID device is made of durable plastic, designed to withstand both rain and impact. BagID uses an e-ink display that replicates the appearance of traditional ink on paper, offering high contrast and a non-reflective surface for optimal readability.
When designing the BagID 2, one priority stood out: Designing a strong and long-lasting baggage tag with excellent functionality, built to join you for numerous journeys to come.
Battery
Our electronic bag tag contains a small lithium battery (< 0.3 g) that complies with IATA's regulations. BagID 2 is an approved portable electronic device (PED) which makes it safe to send with checked luggage. It can be easily charged with a USB-C cable and has battery life of approximately 1 year with tracking, and up to 2 years without tracking enabled.
Buttons
BagID 2 has two buttons on the front that allows you to control functions such as Bluetooth and execute commands like reset and reboot. They may feel a bit hard to press, which is intentional as we expect the device to undergo rough handling during travel. The different combinations ensures that your BagID won't reset during flights.

Tracking
BagID is a certified third-party accessory for Apple and Samsung, meaning it is part of their IoT networks, Apple Find My and Samsung SmartThings Find. Using encrypted Bluetooth signals, BagID communicates with millions of Apple and Samsung devices to determine the location of your baggage.

Security and privacy
The BagID uses Bluetooth to communicate with your phone. Data sent from the BagID app to our backend servers is encrypted, ensuring your personal data stays secure. Tracking data from your BagID to other devices in the IoT networks is also encrypted, as both Apple and Samsung prioritize your privacy.
