Our story

Inspired by the challenges of modern travel, we created BagID to make every journey smoother and stress-free.

The aviation industry is at the forefront of transformation; from online booking, self-check-in and advanced scanners, most aspects of air travel have been modernized the past years. Although there’s been a significant digitalization, the baggage tag – a simple, silicone covered paper tag – remains unchanged.

BagID was started in 2016 with the goal of creating an electronic bag tag with tracking that would streamline the travel experience when travelling with checked bags. We saw the need and opportunity to digitalize and simplify the way people travel with baggage when they fly.

The idea came after one of our founders many business trips where he experienced his expensive equipment getting mishandled and delaying his work. He thought that surely there must be a better way to travel with checked baggage to reduce the risk of this happening. And that's how BagID was born.

BagID was built on the belief that air travel should be seamless for both passengers and operators.

Automation doesn’t mean less care. By reducing the number of manned check-in desks, staff can be allocated to assist travelers that needs extra attention. This ensures a better and more personal experience for those who need it most, while empowering others with the tools to travel more independently.

Second-generation BagID

In 2022, BagID launched our second-generation electronic bag tag – the BagID 2. We partnered up with Apple and Samsung and offer tracking via their global IoT ecosystems, allowing passengers to track their bags throughout their journey.
